MDWA has submitted a letter to the US Department of Labor in response to their Request for Information on Paid Leave; this effort is part of our partnership with 9to5 and will be handled through our Legislative committee. DOL RFI -- MDWA 9-14-20 Paid Leave.docx

The template for our letter to the US Dept of Labor came from Family Values @ Work--a nation-wide coalition of women- and family-oriented nonprofit groups all advocating for paid family & medical leave. That template itself is a great resource of information for supporting information and statistics on paid leave. For our letter, we only needed to add in stories of how paid leave has affected workers in our area: positive impacts of employer-provided leave, and negative impacts of not having paid leave.

And thanks to this RFI, the Dept of Labor has received positive responses from business! For the first time, business lobbyists are sounding much more open and supportive of paid leave policies--conjectured to be due to the pandemic--with some caveats regarding state and local versus federal paid leave laws.
