Retirement--not a sure bet for all!

Ah, retirement--that golden pot at the end of the rainbow! A time to kick back, rest and have fun after a lifetime of work. For many of us, we can look ahead to a financially secure retirement; for others, retirement might never happen.

Older women (>65 years old) have $23,000 LESS

retirement income than men*

At the age when many of us are retiring, many older women (over age 65) are not able to retire due to lack of funds, or they end up barely able to make ends meet—certainly not their expected reward after decades of work!

11.6% of older women are living in poverty vs.

8.8% of older men living in poverty*

The MDWA Legislative committee is hosting a panel of experts to help us better understand this problematic financial situation for older women. Come to learn about:

    • The current economic status of older women;
    • The causes of reduced economic security for this age group, and
    • Proposed policy that would significantly reduce the number of elders living in poverty:  the Retirement Savings for America Act (RSAA).

      MDWA will invite all attendees to take action to support this bipartisan bill.

      Special thanks to Barb Luhring, MDWA member & owner--WeDrawIdeas, for this month's drawing.
